CHARITY RUN TO RAISE RM700,00O
Proceeds will go to Rohingya in Bangladesh, says Jakel Group CEO
AN estimated RM700,000 is expected to be raised at the Jakel Charity Run for Rohingya Kuala Lumpur 2017, said Jakel Group group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Mohamed Faroz Mohamed Jakel.
He said proceeds from the run would be used to buy supplies for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.
He said this was the first charity run organised by the company, in efforts to help the Rohingya community, in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the Jakel Mall here.
“We expect to raise RM400,000 from the run, while Jakel Group will add RM200,000. The remaining RM100,000 will be donated by sponsors of the event,” he said at Jakel Mall here.
“Among the supplies to be donated are sanitary pads, medicines and pants.
“We are also planning to fund the digging of wells in Bangladesh so that the refugees have clean water for consumption.
“Jakel Group will visit the refugee camp in Bangladesh in January to monitor the aid given to them.
“Through the run, we can help the Rohingya, while promoting a healthy lifestyle to the public,” he said, adding that 4,000 people had registered for the run.
Faroz said each participant would receive a race pack that included a water tumbler, T-shirt and a bag, as well as a finishing medal.
