Pro­ceeds will go to Ro­hingya in Bangladesh, says Jakel Group CEO

AN es­ti­mated RM700,000 is ex­pected to be raised at the Jakel Char­ity Run for Ro­hingya Kuala Lumpur 2017, said Jakel Group group man­ag­ing di­rec­tor and chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Datuk Mo­hamed Faroz Mo­hamed Jakel.

He said pro­ceeds from the run would be used to buy sup­plies for Ro­hingya refugees in Bangladesh.

He said this was the first char­ity run or­gan­ised by the com­pany, in ef­forts to help the Ro­hingya com­mu­nity, in con­junc­tion with the 10th an­niver­sary of the Jakel Mall here.

“We ex­pect to raise RM400,000 from the run, while Jakel Group will add RM200,000. The re­main­ing RM100,000 will be do­nated by spon­sors of the event,” he said at Jakel Mall here.

“Among the sup­plies to be do­nated are san­i­tary pads, medicines and pants.

“We are also planning to fund the dig­ging of wells in Bangladesh so that the refugees have clean wa­ter for con­sump­tion.

“Jakel Group will visit the refugee camp in Bangladesh in Jan­uary to mon­i­tor the aid given to them.

“Through the run, we can help the Ro­hingya, while pro­mot­ing a healthy life­style to the pub­lic,” he said, adding that 4,000 peo­ple had reg­is­tered for the run.

Faroz said each par­tic­i­pant would re­ceive a race pack that in­cluded a wa­ter tum­bler, T-shirt and a bag, as well as a fin­ish­ing medal.

Jakel Char­ity Run for Ro­hingya Kuala Lumpur 2017 is di­vided into two cat­e­gories — the 10km open cat­e­gory and 5km fun run.

The 10km run is open to those aged 16 and above at RM60 per per­son. A team of six can com­pete for a fee of RM330. The 5km fun run is open to all ages at RM55 per en­try.

The run will start at Jakel Mall Kuala Lumpur’s entrance.

In the 10km cat­e­gory, the win­ner gets RM5,000, while sec­ond and third place win­ners will walk away with RM3,000 and RM2,000, re­spec­tively.

Lo­cal ath­letes and celebri­ties, such as ul­tra-run­ner and tri-ath­lete Yim Heng Fatt and celebrity host Ha­nis Za­likha will grace the event.

There will be lucky draws dur­ing the event with ex­cit­ing prizes to be won.
