Doctor knows best
Dr Morita facial masks are a treat for the skin, writes Nadia Badarudin
MOST of us only use a facial mask as a weekly treat for the skin. (Or in my case, as and when I have the time). But according to Dr Chunhsu Jou, chief executive officer of Dr Jou Biotech Co Ltd, the daily use of a facial mask is important to maintain healthy skin and a youthful look.
The company is responsible for developing Taiwan’s top-selling facial sheet mask brand, Dr Morita. Jou says while the basic skincare regime of cleanse-tonemoisturise is vital, it is not sufficient to protect and preserve skin from the harsh environment and stress.
“We need nourishing essences to keep skin well-moisturised and to facilitate the rejuvenating and healing process at the end of each day. Although facial masks were originally intended as a weekly treat for the skin, I find that treating the skin with a daily mask will in the long run preserve your skin and keep it looking young.”
A MASK A DAY
Dr Morita is a Taiwanese brand known as one of the pioneers in medical grade skincare. It specialises in facial sheet masks using medical grade natural ingredients to pamper and nourish the skin. Its products are bestsellers in Asian countries, including Malaysia.
The brand has more than 200 types of facial and eye masks and is sought-after by those looking for age-defying solutions.
I did not know what to expect when I asked to try out two of Dr Morita’s new products — Whitening Essence Facial Mask and Glycoprotein Moisturising Essence Cream.
The first thing I did was snap a photo of my cleansed face before applying the two products so that I could make a before-andafter comparison.
The Whitening Essence Facial Mask comes in a box of 10 sheets. As recommended, I put on the peel-off mask after cleansing my face with my usual cleanser. I had to leave the mask on for about 15 minutes.
After removing the mask, I massaged the remaining essence into my skin. The process was quite messy and tedious because the essence was thick.
When the essence had completely absorbed into my skin, I applied the Glycoprotein Moisturising Essence Cream. The moisturising cream, which can also be used as a sleeping mask, is packaged in a 90ml tub with a spatula. It is said to be able to provide deep repair on dry and cracked skin. It contains hyaluronic acid and shea butter oil to repair and strengthen the skin while providing moisturising and hydrating effects.
The whitish cream has a light texture but it took a while for it to be absorbed into the skin.
I applied both products before I went to sleep and had a pleasant surprise the next day. No, I didn’t look younger, but my skin appeared fresh, hydrated and glowing. Besides a naturally radiant look, my skin felt soft and smooth too — and this was just after trying both products once.
The only turn-off factors are that one needs to spend time applying the products and searching the Internet for more information on applications or ingredients because those printed on the labels or packaging are very minimal or mainly in Taiwanese. Despite this, I will continue using both products, that’s for sure.
The Whitening Essence Facial Mask retails at RM59.90 per box while the Glycoprotein Moisturising Essence Cream retails at RM39.90.
