Thou­sands at sports day

KUALA LUMPUR: Thou­sands thronged the Bukit Jalil Na­tional Sta­dium here yes­ter­day for the of­fi­cial Na­tional Sports Day 2018 cel­e­bra­tion.

Youths and sports en­thu­si­asts and fam­i­lies be­gan ar­riv­ing at 6am for the event, which was launched by Prime Min­is­ter Tun Dr Ma­hathir Mo­hamad and Youth and Sports Min­is­ter Syed Sad­diq Syed Ab­dul Rah­man.

Present were Dr Ma­hathir’s wife, Tun Dr Siti Has­mah Mohd Ali, cabi­net min­is­ters and event or­gan­is­ers. The open­ing cer­e­mony saw Syed Sad­diq com­ing in via “fly­ing-fox” to present the event flag to Dr Ma­hathir.

The day will see 33 sports ac­tiv­i­ties be­ing held on a mas­sive scale, in­clud­ing an aer­o­bic vari­a­tion chal­lenge, a fit2go work­out chal­lenge, cy­cling, skate­board­ing, BMX rac­ing, park­our demon­stra­tions and a mini-bike show.
