Shahidan to be arrested if he doesn’t appear in court
ARAU: Police will not hesitate to detain Arau member of parliament (MP) Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim if he fails to be at the Kangar Sessions Court tomorrow where he will be charged with sexually molesting a 15-yearold girl.
State police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Noor Mushar Mohd said police would take action against the former minister if he tried to give excuses not to be there.
“Whether he is sick or not, he is required to attend because his lawyer, Syed Muhamad Anuar Syed Lokman Hakim, has promised to take him to court at 9am on Monday (tomorrow).
“He was absent once. If he does this again, police will have to do their job (by arresting him) because an arrest warrant has been issued,” he said yesterday.
Noor Mushar said there should be no reason for Shahidan to be absent because the MP had been informed of the matter.
“He won’t be able to hide. I hope we don’t have to arrest him,” he said.
According to sources, Shahidan had confirmed his presence, but no further information had been released.
On Friday, the Kangar Sessions Court issued an arrest warrant against Shahidan after he failed to be present to face the charge of sexually molesting a teenager last month.
It was issued by judge Johari Hassan following an application by deputy public prosecutor Mohd Nordin Ismail. Shahidan, when contacted on Friday, claimed he was unaware of the warrant.
