This tour­na­ment is the first of the four Grand Slam ten­nis events of the year. Held in Mel­bourne, it is at­tended by the world’s top-seeded ten­nis play­ers, like Ser­ena Wil­liams, No­vak Djokovic and Andy Mur­ray. This year’s to­tal prize money pool is ex­pected to top last year’s amount of A$44 mil­lion (RM145 mil­lion).
