BA­LEN­CI­AGA: SHAPING FASH­ION

This ex­hi­bi­tion com­mem­o­rates the 100th an­niver­sary of the open­ing of Cris­to­bal Ba­len­ci­aga’s first fash­ion house. Widely re­garded as the mas­ter of haute cou­ture in the 1950s and 1960s, the Span­ish de­signer’s in­flu­ence can be seen in the work of many top fash­ion de­sign­ers even to­day. The dis­play, which in­cludes over 100 pieces and 20 hats, re­flects Ba­len­ci­aga’s in­no­va­tive use of tex­tiles and su­perb pat­tern- cut­ting skills. 57th In­ter­na­tional Art EX­HI­BI­TION

Ti­tled Viva Arte Viva, this ex­hi­bi­tion, or­gan­ised by Venice Bi­en­nale, un­folds over the course of nine “chap­ters”, or fam­i­lies of artists. It starts with two in­tro­duc­tory realms in the Cen­tral Pav­il­ion, fol­lowed by an­other seven across the Arse­nale through the gi­a­rdino delle Vergini, al­low­ing for open di­a­logue be­tween the artists, and be­tween the artists and the pub­lic. Frieze Art FAIR new YORK

ex­pe­ri­ence three days of solo artist pre­sen­ta­tions, spe­cial projects, panel dis­cus­sions and fo­rums. Visi­tors get to view and pur­chase art from more than 1,000 lead­ing artists. Frieze Projects, a pro­gramme of site­spe­cific artist com­mis­sions, in­cludes Jon Raf­man’s trans­for­ma­tion of a booth into a se­cret movie the­atre, where visi­tors can watch – and be watched while watch­ing – a video se­ries. euro­pean NIGHT OF MUSEUMS

In its 13th year, this beloved event is for one night only and sees French museums open their doors to visi­tors for free, be­tween 6pm and mid­night. In ad­di­tion to view­ing per­ma­nent col­lec­tions, visi­tors also get to par­tic­i­pate in fringe ac­tiv­i­ties and at­tend shows, read­ings and con­certs.
