An on-board letter recovered from the Titanic
TAuctioned by Henry Aldridge & Son in Wiltshire for £ 126,000 ( RM689,000).
his saltwater-stained letter - handwritten on oversized, embossed Titanic stationery by First Class victim Alexander Oskar Holverson - set a new world auction record for a Titanic letter. Written just one day before the ship hit the iceberg, Holverson’s letter mentions the food, music and the elite passengers on board, and also makes an ominous reference to the fate of the ship. Having eventually been recovered from Holverson’s body, it is one of the last known letters to have survived the sinking. www. henry- aldridge.co.uk
