-

ALOR SETAR: Despite winning the FA Cup championship last Saturday, the Kedah squad will not be complacent for the Malaysia Cup competition.

The Red Eagle squad, who emerged as champions in the 1990, 1993 and 2007 editions, have been balloted in Group C together with Melaka United, UiTM FC and twice champions Kelantan.

Kedah skipper Khairul Helmi Johari said Kedah could not look down on the other competitors in Group C because anything could happen during the actual match.

"Although Kedah is seen to have reached a comfortable position to advance to the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Cup after getting an easy ballot, we cannot look down on the capability of our opponents," he told reporters here Thursday night.

Earlier, Khairul Helmi together with the Kedah squad and the coaching team were feted at a dinner to celebrate their victory as the FA Cup champions at the Istana Anak Bukit.

At the dinner, the Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and the Sultanah of Kedah, Tuanku Hajah Haminah graced the event and handed over RM20,000 each to the coach, assistant coach and all the players. - Bernama
