SM St Mary emerge champion in Sandakan karate c’ship

SANDAKAN: Sekolah Menengah (SM) St Mary were crowned the champion of the 25th Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah Karate Championsh­ip Cup for Sandakan District Schools.

The school achieved a total of 15 medals comprising six gold, four silver and five bronze medals.

SM St Mary’s chief sensei, Somi Abu Bakar, said he was very proud of the students’ achievemen­t and that they have worked very hard for the championsh­ip.

“I hope the students will continue to work hard and achieve excellent results,” he said.

As for primary school division, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Chi Hwa nabbed 12 medals with four gold, four silver and four bronze medals and emerged champion.

The schools involved were from Sandakan, Beluran, Telupid, and Kinabatang­an with 234 students from 24 primary schools and 19 secondary schools.

The championsh­ip was held for two days at SK St Monica here and the medals were presented to the winners by Sandakan Karate Associatio­n president Alex Lim.
