Export protocol will increase price of swiftlet bird’s nest
BELURAN: The market price of swiftlet bird’s nest will increase with the signing of a protocol agreement between Malaysia and China for the export of the bird’s nest to the country.
Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said Malaysia and China were finalising the export protocol of swiftlet bird’s nest in its raw form.
“When the agreement is executed, I believe that there will be a hike in the market price of the bird’s nest as prices will evidently recover. Four years ago, the price of swiftlet bird’s nest dropped to RM800 per kilogramme and now it has gone up to RM4,000 per kilogramme,” he told reporters after attending the ‘Jalinan Tani Daerah Sandakan’ programme yesterday.
He was confident that the protocol agreement would be implemented following the good ties forged between Malaysia and China through the efforts of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, as well as the high demand for swiftlet bird’s nest from Malaysia.
Ahmad Shabery said the market price for the bird’s nest was good and the government would comprehensively view this industry, including providing business capital loans for entrepreneurs. - Bernama
