SANDAKAN: The police from the headquarters here inspected a total of 155 individuals and 57 vehicles, and arrested nine people during an integrated operation to fight crime here on September 15 to 16.

District police chief ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin said the large scale operation was led by himself and involved 58 personnel from different police stations in Sandakan.

The operation targeted locations identified as hot spots for drugs and crimes including entertainment outlets, daily rental rooms, and drugs spots around residential areas and the town.

The operation also involved enforcement on ‘street gangsterism’.

“The nine arrests were made together with seizures of items that were investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Section 39A (1) Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 6 (1) of Immigration Act 1959/63.

“The main objective of this operation was to fight crime and at the same time solve drug issues which had caused an increase in crime rate in Sandakan. It also aimed to ensure that the community in Sandakan lives in a peaceful and safe environment,” Azhar said.

Azhar also thanked the community who cooperated in supplying useful information which assisted the police in their investigation, and he hoped the collaboration between the community and police would continue.
