El­derly In­done­sian jailed, fined for cheat­ing

KOTA KIN­A­BALU: A 74year-old man was jailed and fined by the Mag­is­trate’s Court here yes­ter­day for cheat­ing a self-em­ployed man.

Mag­is­trate Cindy Mc Juce Bal­i­tus sen­tenced In­done­sian Ham­sah Ar­sad Ab­dul Manan to 24 months’ jail and a fine of RM3,000, in de­fault, two months’ jail af­ter he ad­mit­ted to the charge framed un­der Sec­tion 420 of the Pe­nal Code.

The of­fence car­ries a max­i­mum jail term of 10 years and whip­ping and li­able to a fine, upon con­vic­tion.

The un­rep­re­sented ac­cused was ap­pre­hended for de­ceiv­ing the 49-year-old man of RM7,000 over the pur­chase of rice at the Cus­toms Port here on Oc­to­ber 31, 2015.

In an un­re­lated case, a Filip­ina was jailed for 11 months by an­other Mag­is­trate’s Court here for so­lic­it­ing for the pur­pose pros­ti­tu­tion.

Ima Mhd, 22, pleaded guilty be­fore mag­is­trate Jes­sica Om­bou Kakayun, to a charge un­der Sec­tion 372B of the Pe­nal Code which car­ries a jail term of up to one year or a fine or both, upon con­vic­tion.

The ac­cused was ar­rested for com­mit­ting the of­fence at a room of a ho­tel at Jalan Pan­tai here on Au­gust 3.

Both Ham­sah and Ima were also or­dered to be re­ferred to the Im­mi­gra­tion Depart­ment af­ter their jail terms for fur­ther ac­tion.

Pros­e­cut­ing of­fi­cer In­spec­tors Al­bert Basiri and Mohd Rasy­dan Jasni pros­e­cuted.
