Man jailed, fined for caus­ing hurt to brother

TAWAU: A 41-year-old lo­cal man was sen­tenced to one day in jail and fined RM1,500, in de­fault six months’ jail by the Mag­is­trate’s Court here yes­ter­day for caus­ing in­jury to his 59-year-old brother.

Mag­is­trate Muham­mad Faizal meted out the sen­tence on Halim bin Ah­mad to a charge un­der Sec­tion 323 of the Pe­nal Code which pro­vides one year’s im­pris­on­ment or a fine up to RM2,000 or both.

The ac­cused was charged with pur­posely caus­ing in­jury to Ab­dul Karim bin Ah­mad on April 9, 2016 at about 3.30am at Block 31, Mile 16, Quin Hill Road.

The in­ci­dent hap­pened while the vic­tim to­gether with five other sib­lings were hav­ing a meet­ing for es­tate dis­tri­bu­tion, when the ac­cused, who is the youngest brother, sud­denly be­came en­raged be­cause he dis­agreed with the di­vi­sion of the es­tate and hit the vic­tim.

Pros­e­cut­ing of­fi­cer ASP Nur In­tan Jam­rin pros­e­cuted.
