Omani charged with pos­sess­ing fake USD40,000

KUALA LUMPUR: An Omani cit­i­zen pleaded not guilty in the Am­pang Mag­is­trate’s Court yes­ter­day to a charge of pos­sess­ing coun­ter­feit money, worth more than USD40,000 , last month.

Mo­hamed Yousuf Nasser, 54, from Zanz­ibar, was charged with pos­ses­sion of 443 USD100 notes of the same se­rial num­ber, which he knew were coun­ter­feit, but with in­ten­tion to use them as gen­uine, in a room at Sa­fari Ho­tel, Jalan Ma­manda 5, Off Jalan Am­pang, here at 11.30 am last Sept 28.

The man, who is un­em­ployed, is charged un­der Sec­tion 489C of the Pe­nal Code and faced an im­pris­on­ment for up to 10 years, if found guilty. - Ber­nama
