Malaysia storm into mixed team fi­nal

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia stormed into the 2017 BWF World Ju­nior Cham­pi­onships mixed team fi­nal af­ter thrash­ing favourites South Korea 3-0 in the semi­fi­nals in Yo­gyakarta, In­done­sia yes­ter­day.

Mixed dou­bles pair Ng Eng Cheong-Tan Sueh Jeou gave Malaysia a win­ning start by out­class­ing Jeong Min-Kim Seong Jae 21-9, 21-12 in just 21 min­utes.

Asian ju­nior cham­pion Leong Jun Hao then beat Ki Dong Ju 21-6, 21-19 in the men's sin­gles.

Goh Jin Wei, the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games gold medal­list, se­cured Malaysia's berth in the fi­nal by de­feat­ing An Se Young 21-16, 21-19 in the women's sin­gles.

To­day's fi­nal will see a re­peat of last year's fi­nal with fourth seeded Malaysia up against de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons China, who are seeded third. China had de­feated Ja­pan 3-1 in the other semi­fi­nal tie.

For the record, Malaysia emerged vic­to­ri­ous in 2011 while in 2009 and 2016 fin­ished as run­ners-up. - Ber­nama
