Me­chanic de­nies ex­tort­ing, mo­lest­ing maid

KOTA KINABALU: A me­chanic claimed trial at the Mag­is­trate’s Court here yes­ter­day to two charges of ex­tor­tion and mo­lesta­tion of a 23-year-old maid.

On the first count, Sawal Muhaimin, 49, who was brought be­fore mag­is­trate Cindy Mc Juce Bal­i­tus, was al­leged to have com­mit­ted ex­tor­tion by threat­en­ing to turn in the vic­tim to the im­mi­gra­tion tem­po­rary de­ten­tion cen­tre if she did not hand over to him her two gold rings.

The of­fence, al­legedly com­mit­ted at Jalan Kokol, Mang­gatal on Oc­to­ber 9, is framed un­der Sec­tion 384 of the Pe­nal Code which pro­vides for a jail term of up to 10 years, or a fine, or whip­ping, or with any two of such pun­ish­ments, upon con­vic­tion.

On the sec­ond count, the ac­cused was al­leged to have used crim­i­nal force to out­rage the mod­esty of the same woman on the same day at 8.30pm at Kam­pung Si­nang­gang, Mang­gatal.

He was charged un­der Sec­tion 354 of the Pe­nal Code, which car­ries a jail term of up to 10 years or with fine or whip­ping or with any two of the pun­ish­ments, upon con­vic­tion.

The mag­is­trate fixed De­cem­ber 11-12 for trial and re­leased the un­de­fended ac­cused on bail.
