Nine il­le­gals jailed

KOTA KINABALU: Nine for­eign­ers were sen­tenced to be­tween four and five months of jail by the Ses­sions Court here for en­ter­ing the state il­le­gally.

Judge Azreena Aziz passed the sen­tence on Mohd Salleh Ta­judin, Jalib Hata­man, An­dan Razak, Ma­lik Kudja, Embu Habe, Ali Mah­mur, Il­ham Rahmat, Mohd Ar­pah Bak­tiar and Siti Safrah Sap­pari, af­ter they pleaded guilty to each of their charges un­der Sec­tion 6(1)(c) of the Im­mi­gra­tion Act 1959/63.

The in­dict­ment pro­vides for a max­i­mum fine of RM10,000 or a jail term of up to five years, or both, and whip­pings of not more than six strokes.

The for­eign­ers, aged be­tween 20 and 50, were re­cently ar­rested in the city, Pa­par and Tuaran re­spec­tively.

They ad­mit­ted to stay­ing in the State il­le­gally when the charge against them was read.

Azreena also handed a stroke of the cane to some of the men while oth­ers were spared due to their age and gen­der.

They were also or­dered to be re­ferred to the Im­mi­gra­tion Depart­ment af­ter serv­ing their sen­tence and their bio­met­ric data to be taken be­fore their de­por­ta­tion to their coun­try.
