Nine illegals jailed
KOTA KINABALU: Nine foreigners were sentenced to between four and five months of jail by the Sessions Court here for entering the state illegally.
Judge Azreena Aziz passed the sentence on Mohd Salleh Tajudin, Jalib Hataman, Andan Razak, Malik Kudja, Embu Habe, Ali Mahmur, Ilham Rahmat, Mohd Arpah Baktiar and Siti Safrah Sappari, after they pleaded guilty to each of their charges under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The indictment provides for a maximum fine of RM10,000 or a jail term of up to five years, or both, and whippings of not more than six strokes.
The foreigners, aged between 20 and 50, were recently arrested in the city, Papar and Tuaran respectively.
They admitted to staying in the State illegally when the charge against them was read.
Azreena also handed a stroke of the cane to some of the men while others were spared due to their age and gender.
They were also ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving their sentence and their biometric data to be taken before their deportation to their country.
