4,096 ap­pli­ca­tions to join TUKAR scheme since 2013

KUALA LUMPUR: A to­tal of 4,096 ap­pli­ca­tions for fi­nanc­ing un­der the Pro­gram Trans­for­masi Kedai Runcit (TUKAR) was re­ceived by the gov­ern­ment since 2013 till now, the De­wan Rakyat was told yes­ter­day.

Do­mes­tic Trade, Co­op­er­a­tives and Con­sumerism deputy min­is­ter Datuk Henry Sum Agong said 2,526 of the ap­pli­ca­tions were re­jected.

“The ap­pli­ca­tions ap­proved num­bered 1,570 while 33 of the bor­row­ers have fully paid up their loans,” he said dur­ing the Q & A ses­sion.

He was re­ply­ing to a ques­tion from Er Teck Hwa (DAP-Bakri) who had wanted an up­date on the fi­nanc­ing for small-time re­tail­ers to up­grade their out­lets to be more mod­ern.

The scheme in­tro­duced in 2011 is aimed at as­sist­ing re­tail­ers who can­not get fi­nanc­ing from banks. Qual­i­fied ap­pli­cants can bor­row up to RM80,000 payable back in 15 years. The sum was raised to RM200,000 this year payable also in the same time frame. - Ber­nama
