4,096 applications to join TUKAR scheme since 2013
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 4,096 applications for financing under the Program Transformasi Kedai Runcit (TUKAR) was received by the government since 2013 till now, the Dewan Rakyat was told yesterday.
Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism deputy minister Datuk Henry Sum Agong said 2,526 of the applications were rejected.
“The applications approved numbered 1,570 while 33 of the borrowers have fully paid up their loans,” he said during the Q & A session.
He was replying to a question from Er Teck Hwa (DAP-Bakri) who had wanted an update on the financing for small-time retailers to upgrade their outlets to be more modern.
The scheme introduced in 2011 is aimed at assisting retailers who cannot get financing from banks. Qualified applicants can borrow up to RM80,000 payable back in 15 years. The sum was raised to RM200,000 this year payable also in the same time frame. - Bernama
