Op­er­a­tor crushed to death by back­hoe loader

BEAU­FORT: The op­er­a­tor of a Cater­pil­lar back­hoe loader was killed when the ve­hi­cle landed on its side at Kam­pung Tan­doi, Mem­bakut here yes­ter­day.

The vic­tim was iden­ti­fied as Ray­mond b. Mal­in­tang, 4.5 from Kg Man­dali­pau, Pa­par.

District po­lice chief DSP Azmir Bin Ab­dul Razak said the vic­tim was pro­nounced dead at the scene by paramedics due to head in­juries.

“Ini­tial po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tion showed the vic­tim lost con­trol of the ve­hi­cle be­fore it slipped and fell on its side around 3.50pm.

“The vic­tim was pinned un­der the ma­chine but other work­ers man­aged to pull him out,” he said, adding that the man’s body was taken to the district hos­pi­tal for a post-mortem.

Azmir said the in­ci­dent hap­pened at a road con­struc­tion site.

The case is be­ing in­ves­ti­gated un­der Sec­tion 41 (1) of the Road Trans­port Act 1987.
