63,750 AWAS sum­monses is­sued by RTD from Sept 1 to Nov 7

ME­LAKA: The Road Trans­port De­part­ment (JPJ) has is­sued 63,750 sum­monses via 45 cam­eras un­der the Au­to­mated Aware­ness Safety Sys­tem (AWAS) dur­ing the pe­riod Sept 1 un­til Wed­nes­day (Nov 7).

Deputy Trans­port Min­is­ter Datuk Ka­marud­din Jaa­far said that of the to­tal, 59,340 sum­monses in­volved of­fences for ex­ceed­ing the speed limit and 4,410 sum­monses for break­ing the red traf­fic light.

He said mo­tor­cars formed the high­est num­ber of ve­hi­cles for both of­fences with 56,532 sum­monses fol­lowed by mo­tor­cy­cles (5,263 mo­tices) and oth­ers (1,955 no­tices).

“So far, we have 45 AES cam­eras through­out the coun­try with 29 cam­eras to track down ve­hi­cles ex­ceed­ing the speed limit while 16 cam­eras were for de­tect­ing ve­hi­cles break­ing the red traf­fic light,” he told re­porters af­ter the pass­ing out pa­rade for Road Trans­port Of­fi­cers af­ter com­plet­ing the ba­sic train­ing at the Malaysian Road Trans­port Acad­emy yes­ter­day. - Ber­nama
