State Cabinet yet to decide on company to build dam

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Cabinet has yet to decide on the company to carry out the Papar Dam project, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

Shafie said this when asked to comment on former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s claim on his Facebook page Thursday that the project had been awarded to Wira Syukur.

“It (company candidate) is a listed company, joint venture with China,” he said.

“The Cabinet has yet to decide. It’s alright. We will make an announcement. There is nothing to worry about. It is properly done.

“We will do it for the interest of Sabah, especially for the electricity supply needs and, secondly, enough water supply at the Sabah level.

“It can’t be that we cannot do this project for the sake of Sabah. In the past, they (previous federal administration) did not give the money.

“We raised the funds, and then don’t tell me for the betterment of Sabah, we cannot even spend our own money. That will be something that is really, if I may say, uncalled for,” he stressed.

Najib included a Letter of Intent (LoI) as proof that the project had been awarded to Wira Syukur in his Facebook post.
