IOI Corp’s MD elected as MPOA chairman

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Palm Oil Associatio­n (MPOA) has elected Datuk Lee Yow Chor as its new chairman for the 2020-2022 term to replace Datuk Franki Anthony Dass who retires a er serving from 2016 to 2020.

MPOA said Lee is group managing director and chief executive of IOI Corporatio­n Bhd and was chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) from February 2009 to March 2020.

“His vast and long experience in the Industry will definitely give the associatio­n the added boost in addressing issues plaguing the plantation sector,” it said in a statement yesterday.

Meanwhile, Hap Seng Plantation­s Holding Bhd chief executive officer Au Yong Siew Fah was re-elected as MPOA vice-chairman.

Establishe­d in 1999, MPOA comprised 121 plantation companies which own and/or managed a combined 40 per cent or 1.82 million hectares of oil palm planted area in Malaysia, making it the single largest associatio­n representi­ng the industry in the country.
