18 caught watch­ing cock­fights on­line

KUCHING: Premises be­lieved to be used for on­line cock­fight­ing were raided and 18 per­sons ar­rested in­clud­ing two China women be­lieved to be care­tak­ers.

Po­lice Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tion Depart­ment chief SAC Dev Ku­mar said the premises lo­cated at RH Plaza, Air­port Road were raided by a team led by ASP Shuib Ab­dul Sa­mat at 8.15pm on Wed­nes­day.

Be­sides ar­rest­ing the 18 per­sons aged be­tween 30 and 45, they also seized gam­bling props like lap­top, TV and cash of around RM3,360.

“Dur­ing the op­er­a­tion, the peo­ple were caught watch­ing cock­fights streamed live on TV from over­seas. In­ves­ti­ga­tion points to bets hav­ing been placed on the out­come of the fights.”

He said the premises were set up by a Kota Samarahan cock­fight­ing cen­tre that had been raided pre­vi­ously, and where 320 per­sons were nabbed.

“We be­lieve the or­gan­iser tried to change the modus operandi by hold­ing it on­line,” he said.

All items seized and in­di­vid­u­als ar­rested were brought to the State Con­tin­gent Po­lice Head­quar­ters for in­ves­ti­ga­tion un­der Sec­tion 4B(a) Com­mon Gam­ing House Act 1953.
