KAPIT: A total of 33 SK Lubok Mawang, Baleh pupils received school aid in the form of cash and school bags recently.

When officiating at the ‘Back to School Programme’, Hulu Rajang Member of Parliament Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said the aid is intended to help rural pupils, especially those from the lower income group.

He advised parents in rural areas to send their children to schools nearest to their longhouses instead of to schools in Kapit.

“The government has built schools in your areas for the convenience of the parents to send their children for education. I can assure you that rural schools are equally well equipped if not better than town schools.

“Here there’s water supply, 24hour electricity, hostels, equally well- trained qualified teaching staff. It’s just as good as those in the town. If you don’t support the school near to your longhouse, who will?” he said.

Ugak also announced a RM5,000 grant for the school’s ParentTeacher Association.
