Be up-to-date on education trends, PTAs reminded
MIRI: Parents-teachers associations ( PTAs) should keep abreast with the mainstream development, particularly those regarding education.
In giving this advice, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said this was so that they would know the trend that the government was taking in the field of education towards developing the new generation into leaders.
“Our prime minister recently launched the country’s new strategic planning from 2020 to 2050 called ‘ Transformation National ( TN) 50’ – the way for our country to move forward, especially to prepare our future generations.
“Thus, parents and teachers must know our leaders’ strategy so that we would be in line with the national development and not to be left out from mainstream development agenda,” he said officiating at the annual general meeting (AGM) of SMK Lutong PTA on Saturday.
On another matter, Dennis said schools must have facilities and an environment that would be conducive to learning, while reminding students to take their lessons seriously and take up extra- curricular activities.
He advised teachers, the school management, students and parents to work hand in hand to make sure that the school would live up to its name of being the place to attain education.
“I believe if these components complement one another, coupled with programmes and strategies being put in place by the Ministry of Education, our future generations would be of world- class standard and able to compete with anyone here in our state, the country or even in the world.”
Dennis also reminded the teachers to emphasis on quality learning, stressing that quality learning went well beyond competence and that some students might find it difficult even to conceptualise.
“Teachers should know that some students have no desire to go further than competence. Therefore, they should strive for quality, which is the basis of current and future learning, and should never settle for minimal goals,” he advised.
Later, Dennis announced a Minor Rural Project ( MRP) grant of RM10,000 for the school’s PTA.
