TCS adopts 12month maternity leave to strengthen family bond

-

KUCHING: Technology College Sarawak ( TCS) is now offering extended maternity leave of up to 12 months to its female employees.

The college in a statement yesterday said it was following the example led by Malayan Banking Berhad ( Maybank).

“TCS College believes that education, the main and most important factor in developing the society, starts at home. The early years of a child shapes his or her development as an individual, and this is cultivated by a wholesome family environment,” the statement said.

“By offering new mothers 12 months of maternity leave, it gives mothers the opportunity to spend time with their newborn during the first year,” it said, adding this will also strengthen the family bond and enable the child to grow up in a loving environment where the mother is around to provide the necessary love and nurture the baby’s needs.

By offering the opportunity to take 12 months maternity leave, the college also hoped to create a healthy work environment for its staff.

“Change starts from home. This is something that is within our means to provide, and we would like to become an example where a healthy family creates a healthy workforce and society,” said TCS chief executive Azri Nor.

Azri also pointed out that the college was passionate about uplifting the living standards of society and therefore would constantly be implementing policies that could benefit everyone both in the short and long run.

TCS College’s motto of ‘Subur dan Menyuburkan’ extends not only externally to make education a tool to break the poverty cycle in the state, but also internally to ensure that the welfare of all its staff and students are taken care of.

Meanwhile, TCS is currently promoting two of its new programmes namely Bachelor of Business Administration ( Hons) in Islamic Finance and Bachelor of Business Administration ( Hons) in Management and Entrepreneurship.

It has also developed the Problem Based Learning together with Spanish professor Dr Pedro Barbeito, who has extensive experience in developing and delivering learning programmes in the global oil and gas industry.
