SUPP Bukit Assek chief suggests road be named after Soon Kai

-

SIBU: SUPP Bukit Assek branch chairman Chieng Buong Toon has suggested that a road or a structure in Sibu be named after the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai to remember his contribution to politics and development in Sibu and Sarawak.

He said this would be a matter for the townsfolk to consider, and SUPP in Sibu would work with them towards it.

“The residents of Bukit Assek will remember him. When he was the assemblyman here, people used to crowd him for solutions concerning their livelihood. We in SUPP Bukit Assek branch and the people in the constituency are sad over his passing,” he said, adding not only the people of Bukit Assek but the townsfolk of Sibu had lost a great leader.

He said it was undeniable that Soon Kai had worked towards the development and progress of Sibu and the state as a whole.

“We hope the youths of Sibu will emulate his style of political leadership, honesty and integrity.”

Chieng regretted that Soon Kai’s passing came at a time when the case between Twinswood and SUPP over a property at Kampung Dato Road here was still pending in court.

The property is now the administration office of SUPP Sibu covering Bukit Assek, Dudong, Pelawan, Bawang Assan and Nangka branches.

He said the property was one of the projects Soon Kai and past party leaders had fought to keep so that SUPP Sibu would have a roof over its head and hoped Twinswood would consider returning the property to SUPP Sibu.

“I pray that this controversial issue will be settled amicably between Twinswood and SUPP in respect of Wong’s ( Soon Kai) dedication to SUPP and the people.”

Meanwhile, Chieng said the SUPP Sibu office at Kampung Dato would be open to the public to sign the condolence book as a mark of respect for Soon Kai.

“We shall open during office hours until Saturday noon. The ceremony will kick off today (yesterday) at 9am.”

On a related matter, he said SUPP leaders in Sibu would f ly to Kuching tomorrow to pay their last respects to Soon Kai.

Separately, chairman of SUPP Pelawan branch, Clarence Ting, was saddened by the passing of Soon Kai.

In his Facebook posting, he said: “I remember him ( Wong) as a quiet man, who did not enjoy the limelight, yet he spoke with vigour in his voice and he was brightest among the flock.

“I remember him as a man with conviction, integrity and steadfastness in all that he did.

“On behalf of SUPP Pelawan branch and all party members in Sibu and the state, I wish to send my deepest condolences to Datin Patinggi Datuk Seri Dr Jane Yong Sau Kang, his children Chee Liang, Chee May and Chee Ling on their loss.”
