Audrey Wilson elected new chairwoman of SIDS Siol

KUCHING: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Siol branch ordinary executive member Audrey Wilson has been elected Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak ( SIDS) Siol branch chairwoman for the 2017–2019 term.

Assisting her are Mary Atang (deputy branch chairwoman), Polly Steven (secretary), Jamari Semeli (treasurer), Molly Mos (assistant secretary) and Marina Manggau (assistant treasurer).

The other committee members are Selia Jai, Lily James, Shory Sambang, Nily Sambang, Bedol Gregory and Bangan Idi.

The election of office bearers was held last Sunday at the SDNU Siol community hall at Jalan Bukit Siol, Petra Jaya here.

According to the SIDS Siol branch press release yesterday, around 100 people attended the event, including SDNU Siol branch chairman Pani Igoh and community leader Penghulu Philip Entawan.

“I am happy not only to be part of the committee but also to be able to serve the community through SIDS as a platform and I am looking forward to having SIDS organise activities together with the parent body and SDNU.”

“One of the things SIDS members need to do now is to work closely with their senior counterpar­ts within SDNU,” Audrey said, adding the branch was formed on April 1, 1994.

SIDS is the women’s wing of SDNU.

Meanwhile SDNU Taman Malihah received a government grant of RM3,000 from Batu Kitang assemblyma­n Lo Khere Chiang when its executive members paid him a courtesy call at his office here on Tuesday.

According to branch chairman Ajun Lasu, the allocation will be used to partly finance a pre- Gawai Dayak celebratio­n on May 20.

The visitors included branch advisor Tuai Rumah Adi Jala and deputy chairman Engkiribau Tungkat.

For the record, Tupong assemblyma­n Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman has also pledged funds for the branch to purchase traditiona­l music instrument­s.

Fazzruddin will be attending the branch’s Gawai Dayak dinner do on May 20 while Works Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof has been invited to officiate at the closing of the Gawai Dayak do on July 1.
