Fire renders fifteen families homeless
SIMUNJAN: Fifteen families were made homeless after a fire razed a six- door longhouse and five individual houses late Wednesday night.
The incident at Kampung Sekendu here occured around 11.45pm and quickly destroyed a six- door longhouse before rapidly spreading to five adjacent homes so fast that the occupants were unable to salvage much of anything.
Personnel from the Simunjan fire station, located about four kilometres away, arrived at the scene at 11.53pm following a distress call and were able to bring the situation under control around 12.30am.

Meanwhile, Batang Sadong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri expressed her sadness over the incident and said she will be visiting the fire victims this Saturday.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department added she has directed immediate aid to be sent to those affected.
“My staff is already at the scene to disburse emergency aid to the victims, and I will be visiting them as well as handing over more aid when I arrive in Kuching on Saturday,” she said yesterday.
The cause of the fire is being investigated, while total losses suffered by the families have yet to be ascertained.
