Youth steal­ing mo­tor­cy­cle caught red­handed

KUCH­ING: A youth was handed over to police af­ter he was caught red-handed try­ing to make off with a mo­tor­cy­cle at Kam­pung Stampin Baru on Wed­nes­day night.

The in­ci­dent took place around 8.30pm when the mo­tor­cy­cle owner, a 22-year- old man, was awak­ened from sleep by his sis­ter-in-law, who said she saw an un­known in­di­vid­ual push­ing away his mo­tor­cy­cle from the com­pound of his house.

Re­act­ing to the news, the bike owner rushed out of his house and spot­ted the thief run­ning to­wards the main road to­gether with his mo­tor­cy­cle and im­me­di­ately gave chase.

He man­aged to nab the cul­prit, who was later iden­ti­fied as a 20-year- old male from the Stu­tong area, and con­tacted the police for help.

Police per­son­nel ar­rived shortly af­ter to take cus­tody of the youth and placed him in the lockup pend­ing fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

In an un­re­lated case, a house­wife lost cash and per­sonal doc­u­ments when she fell vic­tim to a pair of snatch thieves at Chawan Road on Wed­nes­day.

The 48-year- old woman was about to get into her car, which was parked out­side of her par­ents house, when an un­known man ap­proached her and grabbed her hand­bag.

The man then ran to­wards a mo­tor­cy­cle, where a male ac­com­plice was wait­ing, and sped off from the scene be­fore the shell- shocked vic­tim could shout for help.

Among the items re­ported miss­ing in the 1pm in­ci­dent in­cluded lo­cal and for­eign cur­rency, a pass­port and sev­eral bank books.
