PBMS proposes setting up of Rohingya humanitarian funds at suraus, mosques

-

MIRI: The Miri Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Association Sarawak ( PBMS) is all- out supportive of the government’s call for the world’s superpowers to play a key part in stopping the violence against the Rohingyas in Myanmar.

On Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this matter would be voiced out by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during the latter’s meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House tomorrow (Sept 12).

In this regard, PBMS vice president Talhah Mansor has suggested that the committees of mosques and suraus across the state set up their respective ‘Tabung Kemanusiaan Rohingya’ ( Rohingya Humanitarian Fund).

It is learnt that such funds have been set up in mosques across Peninsular Malaysia.

“Thanks to Allah, we have been waiting for such move to be undertaken by the nation’s top leader, aimed at helping to stop the violence, discrimination and inhumane treatments against the Rohingyas by the Myanmar government.

“We all have been living harmoniously with one another in this diverse society, but we also feel the pain of those oppressed in Myanmar. We hope that hoped the Malaysian government would act fast to help the Rohingyas. From what I know, the majority of the Rohingyas are seeking refuge at Bangladesh now,” Talhah told The Borneo Post yesterday.

According to Talhah, he is glad that our Malaysian Prime Minister and Deputy Prime minister are concerned toward the issue of the Rohingya as it is an unhumane acts done by the army of the Myanmar against the minority people there.

On the humanitarian fund proposal, Talhah said the money collected from Muslims coming for the Friday mass prayer at mosques could be channelled to Sarawak Islamic Council, which could serve as the manager of the proceeds.

“I believe that it is only right for us to help the victims of inhumanity and discrimination through all possible means,” he said.
