Lee praises religious bodies’ role in helping govt fight social problems

MIRI: Religious bodies play an important role in assisting the government to eradicate social problems in the community.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said without a strong belief in religion, the people would be easily misled by negative elements which would result in various social ills.

“No matter how advanced a country is, religion is still vital in developing people with positive human values,” he said when officiatin­g at the Miri Dusum Khyenpa Kagyud Dharma charity sale here yesterday.

In view of that, the Senadin assemblyma­n said he wanted religious bodies to continue promoting positive human values to maintain peace and harmony in the country.

On the charity sale, Lee thanked members of the public who weathered the rain to support the event. Miri mayor Adam Yii and councillor Aries Leong were among those present.
