Digital Kenyalang set to benefit 3,000 micro-entrepreneurs in Sarawak
KUCHING: The Digital Kenyalang Programme, set for launch this Thursday, should benefit 3,000 microentrepreneurs across six divisions in Sarawak, says Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family, and Childhood Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at the ceremony in Penview Convention Centre here.
It is hoped that the programme, run in cooperation with the Malaysia Digital Economy Co- operation (MDEC), would give high impact on the target group.
“We are expecting 1,000 or more participants at the launch – they comprise present and future entrepreneurs. The actual programme will involve 3,000 people from six divisions – 500 people each from Kuching, Sri Aman, Samarahan, Sibu, Miri and Limbang,” she told reporters at a press conference on the programme yesterday.

Fatimah said the programme is also aimed at enhancing the incomes of those from low-income households and also reducing poverty.
The event will include plenary session, sharing of success stories and exhibitions involving 10 booths.
“This programme was successfully held in Peninsular Malaysia. We have sharing sessions and (sharing of) success stories during the event. We are embarking on digital economy and we don’t want to be left behind.”
According to Fatimah, there are 13,338 micro-entrepreneurs across the state.
