Efficient one-hour fire drill at Marudi Hospital
MARUDI: It was an efficient ‘rescue mission’ conducted by the firefighters at Marudi Hospital yesterday, with the whole operation taking less than one hour.
A fire drill at the hospital simulated a real life scenario, including that where three hospital personnel were trapped inside the administrative section which was ‘in flames’.
According to Marudi Fire and Rescue Department senior officer I Hashim Norshidi, his men received a distress call at 10.25am.
“We immediately despatched eight personnel to the scene – three officers on board a four-wheel drive vehicle, and five firefighters on board a fire engine.
“They arrived at the hospital at 10.28 am. The whole operation ended at 10.50am,” he told reporters.
Apart from the administrative section, Hashim said there was ‘also a small fire at the back of the hospital building’.
“The exercise was conducted – and did feel – like an actual fire scenario. There was no casualty as all the trapped victims were rescued.
“However, two pat ient s ‘suffered from leg injuries’. They immediately received medical attention.
“Overall, it was a successful drill, but there is always room for improvements,” he said.
