Two dead in sus­pected hit-and-run, driver sought

MIRI: Po­lice are look­ing for the driver of a sin­gle cab Toy­ota Hilux be­lieved to have fled the scene after ram­ming a mo­tor­cy­clist in Batu Niah here at mid­night yes­ter­day.

Both the rider and pil­lion rider were killed in the around 12.15am ac­ci­dent.

The mo­tor­cy­cle was said to be head­ing to Ngu Junc­tion from Batu Niah bazaar when rammed from be­hind by the Hilux at a junc­tion in front of Rumah Ting­gang Mawar, Batu Niah.

The bike’s rider be­lieved to be In­done­sian died at the scene while his pil­lion pas­sen­ger, also an In­done­sian, died while be­ing sent by am­bu­lance to Miri Hos­pi­tal.

The im­pact badly dam­aged the back tyre of the bike while the Hilux was dam­aged at the front.

The driver of the Hilux was be­lieved to have fled - leav­ing his ve­hi­cle at the scene.

The case is be­ing in­ves­ti­gated un­der Section 41 (1) of the Road Trans­port Act 1987.
