LIMBANG: A teacher paid a heavy price for befriending and trusting an acquaintance on Facebook recently and was cheated of RM22,600.

Limbang District police chief Supt Mohd Bukhori Saffai said the teacher was conned into parting with her money as a postage charge for a promised parcel supposedly containing gold and foreign currency.

Mohd Bukhori said in her police report, the teacher from a longhouse in Medamit claimed she only realised she had been duped after making three transactions into two bank accounts.

The woman, who is married, claimed she made two deposits totalling RM4,600 into the bank account of a woman on Tuesday.

“Then on Wednesday, the victim made another transaction of RM18,000 into an account belonging to another woman,” Mohd Bukhori said.

When the promised parcel did not arrive, the teacher realised she had been cheated and filed a police report on Wednesday at 12.20pm.
