Kampung Beradek JKKK visits SRDC
SIBU: The Kampung Beradek security and development committee (JKKK) from Kuching conducted a study visit to the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) on Friday.
The 30 visitors were briefed by SRDC secretary Justani Joni on the roles of the council and administration.
Group deputy facilitator Sedi Jeni said they chose Sibu as their destination because the town is very progressive.
Sedi said the insights on SRDC had greatly benefited members.
During a dinner for the visitors, SRDC chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai urged the younger generation to understand the significance of Malaysia Day.
“Generation Y, while they did not go through the struggles of their forefathers in achieving independence and formation of Malaysia, it is crucial that they remember the historic date Sept 16, 1963.
“This is because it marks the beginning towards the making of a successful Malaysia. With the state-level Malaysia Day celebration centred in Sibu this year, this is an opportune time for us to recall back this historic moment,” he said.
