About 4,000 youths to con­verge on Be­tong for Youth Day do

KUCHING: About 4,000 young peo­ple are ex­pected at the state-level Youth Day 2017 to be held at Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Ka­long Ningkan Sports Hall in Be­tong from Oct 27-29.

The event themed ‘ Youths cat­a­lysts of in­spi­ra­tion, driv­ers of in­no­va­tion’ ( Belia pence­tus in­spi­rasi, pemacu in­no­vasi) is aimed at reach­ing out to youths and cre­ate stronger ties with them to un­der­stand and meet their needs as well as pro­vide an av­enue for them to in­ter­act with the com­mu­nity and their lead­ers in the spirit of sol­i­dar­ity.

The logo is a bit re­lated to dig­i­tal. If we look at the dig­i­tal note, it is in line with what the chief min­is­ter has been talk­ing about all this while.

Cul­ture, Youth and Sports Datuk Ab­dul Karim Rahman Hamzah said Chief Min­is­ter Datuk Pat­inggi Abang Jo­hari Tun Openg would of­fi­ci­ate at the open­ing cer­e­mony.

He said this year’s event had its own logo cre­ated by a lass from Limbang.

“The logo is a bit re­lated to dig­i­tal. If we look at the dig­i­tal note, it is in line with what the chief min­is­ter has been talk­ing about all this while.

“The com­mit­tee has de­cided to pick this logo be­cause we want to see en­er­getic youths make huge con­tri­bu­tions to the state and coun­try,” he told a press con­fer­ence af­ter chair­ing the com­mit­tee’s meet­ing at his of­fice here yes­ter­day.

Ab­dul Karim said the ac­tiv­i­ties for this year’s event were mainly de­signed for youths.

The three- day event is packed with ac­tiv­i­ties such as youth mil­le­nium princess and strong­man com­pe­ti­tion; youth idol and bat­tle of the band; youth town hall with the chief min­is­ter (com­pris­ing stu­dents and mem­bers of as­so­ci­a­tion or agen­cies); youth and ca­reer ex­hi­bi­tion; youth kitchen and sales stall; youth rock climb­ing, na­ture and wall climb­ing; youth fun run, au­toshow, zumba, aer­o­bic ex­er­cise, fun dance, tel­egames and var­i­ous sports ac­tiv­i­ties; and chil­dren’s draw­ing and colour­ing con­tests.

He said high­light of the event is the pre­sen­ta­tion of the state youth awards to out­stand­ing in­di­vid­u­als and out­stand­ing as­so­ci­a­tions.

As­sis­tant Min­is­ter of Youth and Sports Datuk Snow­dan Lawan, La­yar assem­bly­man Gerald Ren­tap Jabu and per­ma­nent sec­re­tary to the Min­istry of Tourism, Arts, Cul­ture, Youth and Sports Datu Ik Pa­hon Joyik were also present at the press con­fer­ence.
