Telco man­ager charged with CBT in­volv­ing al­most RM1.3 mln

KUALA LUMPUR: A pay­ment pro­cess­ing man­ager of a telecom­mu­ni­ca­tion com­pany was charged at the Ses­sions Court here yes­ter­day with two counts of com­mit­ting crim­i­nal breach of trust (CBT) in­volv­ing al­most RM1.3 mil­lion two years ago.

As­mira Arif­fin, 41, a sin­gle mother of five, how­ever, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial af­ter the charges were read to her be­fore Judge Az­man Ah­mad.

She was al­leged to have com­mit­ted the of­fences af­ter fail­ing to de­posit into the com­pany’s ac­count the daily pay­ment of RM720,005 and RM570,753 col­lected from its branch lo­cated in a shop­ping mall in Jalan Imbi here between Aug 18, 2015, and April 21 this year.

The charge un­der Sec­tion 408 of the Pe­nal Code car­ries a max­i­mum jail term of 14 years, with fine and whip­ping, if con­victed. The court al­lowed As­mira bail of RM70,000 with one surety and or­dered her to sur­ren­der her pass­port to the court and to re­port to near­est po­lice sta­tion in the first week ev­ery month.
