ATM seizes 470 kilo­grammes of ke­tum leaves

ALOR SETAR: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) through the 2nd Border Reg­i­ment seized 470 kilo­grammes of ke­tum leaves worth RM44,650 that were be­lieved to be smug­gled to Thai­land on Wed­nes­day.

Sixth Bri­gade Com­man­der Brig Gen Ab­dul Aziz Is­mail said the raid in­volv­ing a team com­pris­ing four ATM per­son­nel and an of­fi­cer was car­ried out at the Gu­bir op­er­a­tion area, Pos Lam­para at 5.25pm.

“The team on pa­trol in­ter­cepted a four-wheel drive ve­hi­cle and two mo­tor­cy­cles and found 47 sacks of ke­tum leaves.

“Six in­di­vid­u­als fled the scene and left the ve­hi­cles af­ter re­al­is­ing the pres­ence of the sol­diers,” he said in a state­ment yes­ter­day.

Ab­dul Aziz said the seized ke­tum leaves were brought to the Kuala Nerang Po­lice Sta­tion for fur­ther ac­tion. — Ber­nama
