Motorcyclist killed, pillion rider seriously hurt in morning crash
KUCHING: A motorcyclist was killed while his female pillionrider was seriously injured in an accident at KM78 of Jalan KuchingSri Aman yesterday.
State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy chief Bingkok John said the motorcyclist was identified as Helmio Kuling, 26, from Kampung Ensebang Plaie in Serian
It is said that the incident occurred around 10.30am, which involved a motorcycle and a lorry, said to be heading to one of the construction sites under the Pan Borneo Highway project.
“Paramedics pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene of the accident, most likely due to internal injuries,” said Bingkok, adding that the pillion rider, aged 14, was rushed to Serian Hospital.
The lorry driver was unharmed.
“It is learnt that at the time of the incident, therewere traffic-wardens at the said construction site. This case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act 1987,” Bingkok said.
