Rapid bus service provides necessary access for people
KUALA LUMPUR: RapidKL buses transported a daily average of 360,690 passengers between January and September this year, the Dewan Rakyat was told yesterday.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said RapidPenang buses transported 80,000 passengers daily and RapidKuantan buses, 10,000, over the same period.
“A total of 1,147 RapidKL buses operate in and around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor; 382 buses provide the RapidPenang and RapidKamunting service and 80, the RapidKuantan service.
“The buses serve identified social routes and for the duration of the service, including during off- peak hours,” she said when replying to a question from Sim Tze Tzin ( PKR-Bayan Baru) on the operation of Rapid buses in all states and their daily average of passengers.
Nancy said the bus service was an important one that provided access for the people in ensuring their socio- economic benefits.
While replying to a supplementary question, from Rubiah Wang ( BN-Kota Samarahan), on the government’s plan to improve the stage bus service in Kuching and Kota Samarahan, Nancy said the process of selection and negotiation had been completed.
“The Kuching Stage Bus Service Programme will be signed next week and the service can be enjoyed by the people of Kuching next year.
“It is being carried out in stages and the plan is to implement it in each state capital in the country,” she said. — Bernama
