When we talk about coastal road, it will include the construction of bridges and with the completion of the bridges, the road (coastal road) will have a very high volume of traffic.

KUCHING: The government is seriously looking at upgrading the coastal road in view of the high traffic volume which is expected to increase in future.

In stating this, Assistant Minister of Coastal Road Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the coastal road is expected to be congested particularly with the completion of the connecting bridges.

“When we talk about coastal road, it will include the construction of bridges and with the completion of the bridges, the road (coastal road) will have a very high volume of traffic.

“Even with the ferry services that we have now, the frequency of traffic along the road is high.

“So with this situation, we are serious in upgrading the coastal road,” he told the august House yesterday.

He pointed this out when replying to a supplementary question raised by Aidel Lariwoo ( BN- Sadong Jaya).

Aidel had asked whether the government had a plan to upgrade the coastal road, particularly with the construction of bridges.

Julaihi acknowledged that the condition of the coastal road was bad, based on his ground visit with officers from the ministry and Public Works Department.

He mentioned the 9km stretch of Triso- Pusa Road which was in a bad condition would be upgraded in middle of next year.

To an original question on whether the government had any plan to upgrade the Asajaya to Sadong Jaya road, Julaihi said the government would ensure that the stretch would always be maintained.
