Simunjan in dire need of new township — Alwa

The Borneo Post - - HOME -

ALWA Dris ( BN- Simunjan) said the proposed new Simunjan township will be a real tonic to transform the town in line with its status as an administrative centre of the district.

” That is the main reason why we need a new township, to house, among others, the state and federal government agencies like Forest Dept, Agriculture Dept, Health Dept, Post Office, Information Dept, Welfare Dept, National Registration and Fire and Rescue Dept. The present premises are dilapidating,” he said in his debate to support the state budget yesterday.

“The dilapidated physical condition of these government buildings do not reflect the government’s focus to provide world- class services and comfort to the people who require the services,” he added.

Alwaalsohopedthenewtownship would be able to accommodate all those offices, residential and commercial buildings, and higher learning institutions.

He said the new township project was very much awaited by the people here to provide a fresh breath of life and to expand the economic activities.

“The new township will change the landscape of the current Simunjan town so that the people will be able to live comfortably and in peace. I thus urge the government to be serious on the implementation of the new township.

Alwa also requested that the village expansion project and relocation of the villagers would become a reality at Simunjan town proper soon.

“Many people are now living at workers’ quarters at plantations in the suburb. Besides working in plantations they also live in the quarters provided as there is no land for them to build their own houses.

“There are many families sharing a single accommodation This is a sign that a village expansion plan and re-allocation have to be carried out,” he said.
