Sarawak-born artist holds solo exhibition
KUCHING: Sarawak- born artist Norman Choo is holding a solo exhibition ‘ My Journey Thus Far’ at Saradise Gallery, Level 1 Titanium Tower until Dec 8.
Choo, who now resides in Canada, is a water colourist.
He has participated in numerous art exhibitions, won awards globally, and is a member of several artists’ organisations in Malaysia and Canada.
His works have been collected by museums, institutions and private individuals in Malaysia, Taiwan, China, Singapore, Japan, United States, Canada, and Poland.
Choo, whose work encompasses realism, impressionism, fauvism, to cubism, semi- abstractions, and abstracts, has been called a talented and versatile painter by art enthusiasts and collectors.
“The month- long exhibition of my artworks is dedicated to my late mother and my late grandparents and also to my sister,” he said before the launching of the exhibition on Monday.
“The exhibition is also to acknowledge my teachers during my formative years though some were unable to make it as they are no longer with us.”
Choo said his art teachers taught him the basics of drawing, colours, and how to make his artwork vibrant and appreciated.
He also thanked Saradise Gallery for helping him and supporting local artists.
Saradise Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Dylan Yee Kar Sein said the company seeks to nurture the Sarawak brand by showcasing the Sarawakian identity through art.
“We set up the art gallery to work with local artist in order to showcase their artworks and at the same time to promote Sarawak via their talents and artworks,” he said.
“In the last two years we have worked with 828 local artists through workshop exhibitions in art galleries around Kuching.”
He said Saradise has also worked successfully with international artists to help develop local young artists.
