Combi volunteer teams pivotal in fight against Aedes mosquitos
SIBU: Communication behavioural impact ( Combi) volunteer teams play pivotal roles in mobilising the community to tackle the dengue menace through good maintenance of the surroundings.
Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairperson Rogayah Jamain said they help to inculcate the practice of keeping surroundings clean in their communities.
“One of the activities to mobilise the community is through gotongroyong. It (gotong-royong) needs to be held regularly,” she suggested when officiating at Combi volunteer team programme for Sibu District 2017 in Surau Darus Sa’dah Kampung Hilir here recently.
The programme was organised by Sibu Divisional Health Office ( DHO) in collaboration with village security and development committee (JKKK) of Kampung Hilir 2 as well as JKKK Kampung Pa’ris. It was aimed to mobilise the community to keep their surrounding clean for the prevention of dengue.
Rogayah also stressed that it was the responsibility of each member of the community to ensure the cleanliness of their compounds.
Doing so, she said, would automatically destroy the Aedes breeding grounds.
“Gotong-royong needs to be welcomed by all villagers and not just a part of them in order to achieve its objectives,” added Rogayah.
She said Combi programme is a combination of health education, surrounding assessment, advertising technique and mobilising the community to achieve the desired health impact for the needs of the community concerned.
“In this regard, I hope all the villagers will make full use of the programme by giving cooperation to the Health Department to ensure that the Combi volunteer team remains relevant to tackle the dengue issue and surrounding cleanliness,” she said.
Besides gotong-royong, there were also health screening, health talk and an exhibition on that day. Besides Kampung Hilir, the other locations for Combi in Sibu district are Kampung Dato Baru, Bandong Road/Abang Barieng Road, PBB Ranting Hilir 2, Rumah Kunsu, Taman Rejang and Kampung Bahagia Jaya, Teku.
Also present was JKKK Kampung Hilir 2 chairman Rabek Ali Hamid.
