KUCHING: Former Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof is hopeful that the new Pakatan Harapan ( PH) government will honour projects committed to the state by the previous administration.

He mentioned the Pan Borneo Highway, coastal road and the Batang Lupar Bridge as among the projects that should be continued for the benefit of the people in Sarawak.

“The new government should honour whatever ( projects) that has been committed by the previous government because I believe it is good for the people. But of course that (decision) rests on the new government, whatever they want to decide.

“As far as Sarawak is concerned, the expectation of the people is whatever projects that have been announced and committed under the previous government should continue. It is for the benefit of the people,” he told reporters yesterday.

Fadillah, who is Petra Jaya MP, earlier officiated at the launching of the Ramadan bazaar at Taman Sukma Ria, Petra Jaya.

As for the construction of the Batang Lupar Bridge, he said the previous administration had agreed to a 50 per cent allocation for the RM1 billion-project.

“I leave it to the new government, but as Sarawakians, we hope that they will be able to assist the state government in making sure that all infrastructure and amenities that need to be done continues.

“Everything should continue because it is for the benefit of people in Sarawak,” he asserted.

State PH chairman Chong Chieng Jen on May 15 was reported to have assured that the construction of the RM16 billion Pan Borneo Highway will continue, despite the change of government.

He however said some auditing would be done on the actual implementation of the work and also the appointment of contractors and their subcontractors, who get a fraction of the price although they are the ones actually doing the work.

“For now, I would like to reassure all Sarawakians that Pan Borneo (Highway) project will continue as are the other major projects that have been going in Sarawak,” Chong was quoted as saying.
