HBA: Pakatan Hara­pan’s man­i­festo on af­ford­able hous­ing well thought of

KUALA LUMPUR: The Pakatan Hara­pan’s man­i­festo on af­ford­able hous­ing and home own­er­ship has been very well thought off, says the Na­tional House Buy­ers As­so­ci­a­tion ( HBA).

HBA sec­re­tary- gen­eral Chang Kim Loong said upon im­ple­men­ta­tion, it could go far to­wards in­creas­ing the sup­ply of af­ford­able hous­ing and re­duce the threat of home­less peo­ple.

“The HBA views the man­i­festo with high op­ti­mism and an­tic­i­pa­tion ... we are highly sup­port­ive of this man­i­festo,” he said when met by reporters af­ter be­ing called by the Coun­cil of Emi­nent Per­sons to brief them on the as­so­ci­a­tion’s views on the hous­ing agenda.

Pakatan Hara­pan, prior to win­ning the 14th Gen­eral Elec­tion had an­nounced among oth­ers, that the coali­tion would build one mil­lion af­ford­able houses within two terms of the Pakatan Hara­pan- ruled govern­ment.

It had also an­nounced that a spe­cial hous­ing loan scheme tai­lored for youth to buy their first home would be cre­ated and main­te­nance cost in low- cost hous­ing area would be taken over by the govern­ment.

A Na­tional Af­ford­able Hous­ing Coun­cil chaired by the prime min­is­ter would also be formed to bring to­gether, the work of dif­fer­ent agencies un­der one roof. — Ber­nama
