Malaysians wish Dr M ‘happy birthday’ through social media

KUALA LUMPUR: The 93rd birthday of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad this year is not only more special as he has returned as the Prime Minister of Malaysia but also from the remarkable attention he receives from all Malaysians.

Since Monday Dr Mahathir had been showered with congratula­tions and prayers for his well-being through the social media from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion and background.

The seventh Prime Minister, who was born in Seberang Perak, Alor Star, Kedah on July 10, 1925, was the 4th Prime Minister from 1981 to 2003.

DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang also did not miss out on wishing Dr Mahathir happy birthday in his Facebook.

“Many happy returns to build a new political legacy of democracy, justice and unity as well as Malaysia as an internatio­nal top class nation which is a “beacon of light in a disturbed and distracted world”,” he said.

Dr Mahathir’s son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who is also Kedah Menteri Besar, in a video recording, made a speech representi­ng all the people of Kedah.

In the video of approximat­ely 40 seconds duration uploaded through Mukhriz Mahathir FC, Mukhriz hoped his father would continue to enjoy good health in leading the country.

“On behalf of all the people of Kedah. I hope that Tun Mahathir will continue to be given a long life, good health, sanity in thought, wisdom and continued guidance to lead the nation to a more peaceful and prosperous level,” he said.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa also tweeted bilinguall­y on his Twitter page by saying “Selamat hari lahir YAB PM @ chedetoffi­cial. semoga dikurniaka­n kesihatan berpanjang­an/ Happy Birthday YAB PM. Best wishes and good health always”.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) chief General Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin, in a video footage representi­ng ATM, said the 93-year- old leader’s enthusiasm was a boost to the security forces in safeguardi­ng the country.

“We take a leaf from the spirit of Tun who is already 93 years old but still trying to uplift the country.

“We will adopt that spirit as a struggle and an example to lead ATM, “he said in a video uploaded on the Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarte­rs’ Facebook.

Meanwhile, Malaysians also did not want to be left behind in congratula­ting Dr Mahathir on his birthday through the social media with the #TunM93 hashtag.

Generally, netizens were hoping that the 7th Prime Minister would continue to be given good health and intelligen­ce to lead the country.

It included a group of artists, Caliph Busker who recorded a video with their live band singing “Happy Birthday” to Dr Mahathir via their Facebook.

“Only sincerest prayer with the highest expectatio­n, so that his good health and intelligen­ce continue to be preserved. Until the earth returns to normal.

“Happy 93th birthday celebratio­n for the greatest figure, the ultimate statesman, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” said a netizen, known as Azrul Amila Amir. — Bernama
