BNM, DBP promote usage of national language in financial sector

KUALA LUMPUR: The central bank together with Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) recently organised the 10th “Pertanding­an Pidato antara Institusi Kewangan Piala Gabenor Bank Negara Malaysia” to enhance, promote and implement the usage of the national language in the financial industry.

In a statement yesterday, the central bank said the move was in line with its financial inclusion initiative­s and to generate greater awareness on matters concerning financial consumers.

“This competitio­n aims to improve the understand­ing of the bank’s policies and initiative­s in the financial sector, as captured in topics on the digital economy; affordable housing; Perlindung­an Tenang insurance; Islamic finance; cyber threats in the financial industry; and cryptocurr­ency,” it said.

Muhamad Yusof Sulaiman of Sun Life Malaysia Assurance Bhd emerged as the champion in the finals of the competitio­n which was held on July 5 while Ahmad Safiuddin Nordin of AmBank (M) Bhd and Fartihah Nabilla Harun of CIMB Bank Bhd took second and third place, respective­ly.

The winners received RM5,000 (Champion), RM3,000 (first runner up) and RM2,000 ( second runner up) in cash together with a trophy, certificat­e of participat­ion and books published by DBP.

In total, 83 participan­ts from local and foreign banks, developmen­t financial institutio­ns and insurance and takaful companies took part in the competitio­n. — Bernama
